Obituary

Rev. Thomas Howard Stapleton, 75, of Cartersville, died on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Cartersville Medical center. Born January 30, 1943 in Mobile, Alabama, he was the son of the late Joseph Benjamin Stapleton and Edna Louisa TerKeurst Stapleton.

Rev. Thomas H. Stapleton (Bro. Thom), a servant of God as a pastor for over 50 years, loved the church till his last day and was loved by everyone who had the privilege to meet him. He and his wife (Aline) recently celebrated 53 years of marriage in November. He enjoyed people, Alabama Football (Roll Tide), The Atlanta Braves, and never passed up a good meal. Most of all he loved God, his church, and his immediate and extended family. He answered to many names including; Dad, Thom, Tommy, Grandpa, Grand Papa, Uncle Tommy and Bro. Thom. Brother Thom was ordained into God’s ministry November 11, 1961. He served as a Pastor to many churches including:
Hickory Grove Missionary Baptist Church - Newport, AR Jan., 1965-July, 1966
Old Glaise Missionary Baptist Church – Bradford, AR July, 1966- Feb., 1968
Panola Missionary Baptist Church – Lonoke, AR Feb., 1968-Dec., 1969
Landmark Missionary Baptist Church – Danville, AR Dec., 1969- May 1970
Overlook Missionary Baptist Church – Mobile, AL May, 1970- Jan., 1974
New Home Missionary Baptist Church – Wetumpka, AL Jan., 1974- Jan., 1976
Union Avenue Missionary Baptist Church – Bogalusa, LA Feb., 1976- Jan., 1979
1st Landmark Baptist Church – Jacksonville, FL Jan., 1979- Nov., 1982
Fouraker Road Missionary Baptist Church – Jacksonville, FL Nov., 1982- May, 1996
Hatley Missionary Baptist Church – Amory, MS May, 1996- June, 2001
Central Missionary Baptist Church – Newport, AR June, 2001- June, 2006
Unity Missionary Baptist Church – DeWitt, AR June, 2006-

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Joart M. Stapleton, Edgar L. Stapleton and Curtis I. Stapleton. Survivors include his wife, Aline T. Stapleton; his sons, Matt Stapleton (Mary), Lee Lindsay; his grandson, Mark Stapleton (Stephanie); his granddaughters, Michelle S. Meyers (Davis), Heather S. Walters (Stephen); his brothers, Richar E. Stapleton and Paul L. Stapleton; his sisters, Mary F. Griffith, Pamela R. Hembree; and 6.75 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Acworth with Pastor Mike Maxwell officiating. Rev. Stapleton will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow at New Home Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Alabama on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 17, 2018 from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Acworth.

In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorial contributions in Rev. Stapleton’s honor to the missionary fund at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 6069 Woodstock Rd., Acworth, GA 30102.

It was always a joy to fellowship with Thom! His ministry and mine were contemporary, and I respected him greatly as a man of God's Word. Deepest sympathy to Aline, the family and extended family. Laura and I love you and pray for God's Comfort to be immense upon you during this painful time.

We were blessed with Thom's leadership and 7 years of friendship with Thom and Aline. He was a good preacher but was a great pastor! We shall see him in spirit soon.
