Obituary for Sara Embry (Maddox)

Sara Maddox Embry, 104, of Cartersville died on December 4, 2018 at her residence. Born in Martin, Tennessee on August 12, 1914 she was the daughter of the late Porter Champney Maddox and the late Martha Lee Alexander. She was also preceded in death by her husband of forty one years, Hollie J. Embry, Jr.

Sara was a loving wife and mother who raised her children in a Christian home. She was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed playing piano, cooking, gardening, needlepoint, crocheting and sewing. She was an ardent Atlanta Braves fan. Sara was of the Baptist faith and served as President of the Women’s Missionary Union in the local churches, Noonday Baptist Association and the state of Georgia.

Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Hollene Embry of Cartersville, Donna Embry Stevenson and Richard Stevenson of Cartersville, and Susan Embry Naylor of Waleska; her grandchildren, Shane Stevenson of Rockmart, and Slade Stevenson of Cartersville; her great-grandchildren, Luke Stevenson, Jessi Stevenson, Sam Stevenson, Ben Stevenson, Andrew Stevenson, and Samson Stevenson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2018 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Reverend Donald J. Mason officiating. Interment will follow in Cherokee Memorial Park in Canton. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on Friday prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Sara’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Flowers are being accepted by the family or those desiring may make memorial contributions in Sara’s honor to Amedisys Hospice.
