Obituary for Michael Edward Fessler

Capt. Michael Edward Fessler, United States Marine Corps, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019 at his home in Roswell, GA. He was 37.

Michael was born at 8:56pm on August 18, 1981 at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida, son to Steven W. Fessler and Carole L. Fessler. Michael spent his formative years in Peachtree City, GA where he attended Booth Middle and McIntosh High School, graduating from high school in 1999. Michael then attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 2004 after five glorious years calling the Dawgs at Sanford Stadium, watching his beloved Georgia play between the hedges.

In 2008, Michael joined the United States Marine Corps, attending Officer Candidate School and commissioning as a Second Lieutenant. Michael served as a Logistics Officer in the Marines, deploying in 2010 as a Maintenance Management Officer, Marine Support Squadron 274, 3D Marine Aircraft Wing, Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. After leaving active duty, Michael later joined a Marine Corps Reserve unit in Smyrna, GA. In 2013/2014 Michael again served in Afghanistan where he had the honor of leading a small Marine detachment repatriating fallen Marines.

Michael was a lifelong fan of the Denver Broncos, Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, and probably most importantly, the band Zebrahead. Michael loved Ford Mustangs, riding his motorcycle cross country, tailgating with his friends, creating artistic things with his hands, and his dog Dixie and Chipper. But he was most proud of serving as a United States Marine.

Michael is survived by his parents, Steve and Carole Fessler of Cartersville; his identical twin brother, Brian Fessler of Arlington, VA; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Graveside service, with Military Honors, will be held at 3pm on 21 March 2019 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation, Post Office Box 368, Woodland Hills, CA 91365 or https://www.garysinisefoundation.org
